X5 expands in the Tatarstan, Tambov and Samara Provinces

The X5 Retail Group, a Russian grocery retailer, which recently opened five new discounter stores in the Tatarstan and Tambov Provinces, is planning eight more in the Samara Province.
The four new Pyaterochka+ stores in the Tatarstan Province opened on 1 and 2 September 2010 and operate on 250-350 m2 of trading area. Each of the units offers approximately 2,500 SKUs.
The first Pyaterochka unit in the Tambov Province appeared in Michurinsk at the end of August 2010. The outlet offers about 3,000 SKUs on a trading area of 285 m2.
Finally, X5’s plans to develop its grocery chains are focussed on the launch of eight new establishments in Syzran (in the Samara Province). At present there is only one active Pyaterochka store in the city. The new establishments will rent more than 10,000 m2 from the local retailer Big Mag. They will include one Perekrestok supermarket in the Mongora shopping centre (1,130 m2 of trading space), a Pyaterochka-maxi discounter in the Autobus shopping centre (3,177 m2) and six Pyaterochka+ convenience stores (260-480 m2 each).
