The Regiony Development Group, which acquired a part of Siberian grocery chain Alpi at the beginning of 2010, intends to offer the latter’s premises for rent, according to Rbc Daily. Half of the area has already been taken by the local retailers Cora (four hypermarkets) and Sibirsky Gorodok (18 outlets). By the end of 2010 Regiony plans to have rented out 85% of the premises.
Five former Alpi stores are to change their names to Iyun and will operate as shopping malls. The rest of the stores will probably be taken over by market players such as the X5 Retail Group, Auchan and O’Key.
Regiony bought Alpi from Sberbank Capital for RUB 3.5bn ($113.3m). The Alpi chain had consisted of 23 outlets taking up about 340,000 m2 between them, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the Kemerovo Province, Novosibirsk and Khakassia. The areas of its premises range from 5,000 m2 to 70,000 m2.
