Polish Mlekovita begins production of mozzarella in Russia

On 26 July, the Polish dairy Mlekovita commenced the production of mozzarella-like cheese in Kaliningrad. The investment cost is estimated to be PLN 5m (€1.2m). The raw material used will come from Russia.
Furthermore, in 2011 Mlekovita plans to launch the production of ripened cheese in the country. The company intends, eventually, to process 500,000 litres of milk per day in Russia.
Polish dairy goods manufactured by Mlekovita are present in the largest cities in Russia. In addition, Mlekovita owns two wholesale stores in the country, in Moscow and Kaliningrad.
In 2010, the company’s exports to Russia were worth between PLN 25m (€6.2m) and PLN 30m (€7.5m) per month, twice as much as those of 2009.
