2010-07-22
X5 Retail Group with revenues of RUB 275.1bn ($9.0bn) in 2009 appeared on the first place in the ranking of the 50 largest Russian retailers, compiled by InfoLine, a Russian information agency. The next places are occupied by other key players of the Russian retail market:
Magnit (with revenues of RUB 159.9bn or $5.2bn in 2009),
Auchan (RUB 153bn or $5bn) and
Metro Cash & Carry (RUB 114.9bn or $3.8bn). The ranking comprised only companies with annual revenues exceeding RUB 7bn ($230m).
Overall, in 2009 the 50 top retailers operating in Russia generated an 8% growth of their combined revenues year on year.
In the period of 2010-2012, the Russian retail market’s turnover is forecast to grow by 8.9%, according to a forecast by InfoLine. The company foresees also a change in the structure of retail turnover in Russia in the period in question. The share of food products will increase at the expense of the non-food sector, which is to be caused by the slower rate of growth of Russian customers’ income.
