Metro Group is introducing its consumer electronics chain
Saturn onto the Russian market. The company is planning to open two stores by the end of the year: one in Moscow and one in Voronezh. The Moscow store will be located in the Vegas shopping centre, occupying a total area of 5,600 m², of which 3,900 m² is the trading space. The Voronezh store in the Grad retail park will cover respectively 6,700 m² and 4,700 m².
Saturn comprises 245 stores in Europe. In Russia it will have to compete with
Eldorado and
M.Video, which are the two key players in the Russian consumer electronics market, holding a combined 50% share of the market.
Saturn is also the second chain of consumer electronics launched by Metro in Russia. The first one,
Media Markt, appeared in the country in December 2006 and since then has grown to 23 stores. In 2009 its revenue amounted to €405m.
