Carrefour confirms 2009 Russia entry

Despite the financial crisis,
Carrefour intends to enter the Russian market in 2009, reported Interfax. The company has confirmed plans to open at least one hypermarket in the country. The first unit, with a planned area of some 14,500 m², is expected to appear in Krasnodar, in the Galaktika shopping centre.
Carrefour has expressed a desire to be present in all of the four BRIC markets (Brazil, Russia, India and China).
The retailer’s operations in Russia are represented by
Carrefour Russ, established in April 2007.
