CPI at the end of 2011 at record low

The annual growth consumer price index (CPI) in Russia at the end of 2011 was the lowest since 1991, according to the Russian Federal Statistics Service (Rosstat), as at the end of the year it increased only 6.1%. To compare, the increase was 8.8% in 2010.
It is important to emphasise that in the last two years prices for the 10% of the population with the lowest levels of income have grown by approximately 18%, whereas for the top 10% of high earners they have gone up by only 13% in real terms, according to the head of Rosstat, A. Surinov.
The income differentiation gap between the top 10% and bottom 10% of earners at the end of 2011 was estimated to be approximately 16 times.
